example. Fixed Fiber optic attenuator has female to female adapter type attenuator and male to female
plug-in type attenuator. Female to female SC Fiber Optic Attenuator is able to couple from SC
connector to SC connector, while male to female SC Fiber Optic Attenuator from SC adapter to SC connector. The
combination of attenuation film in female to female SC attenuator or attenuation fiber in male to female SC
attenuator and precision molded polymer/metal housing provides reliable and

Selection Notes
Typically selected when an SC/UPC single-mode link needs a fixed, known attenuation value (up to 25
dB) to prevent receiver overload or to normalize power levels during commissioning/testing, using
a male-to-female plug-in format for quick insertion at ODF/patch points.
May not be appropriate when the attenuation target, wavelength plan (1310/1550), or the site’s SC/UPC vs
SC/APC convention isn’t clearly defined, since an incorrect fixed value or polish mismatch can
under-power the receiver or hide underlying link issues during troubleshooting.
